This festive season I am delighted to partner with House of Fraser to share my tips for fun, colourful and stylish DIY Christmas decorating ideas across their digital, in-store and catalog. I’m actually not what I would consider a ‘crafter’ but there’s something about Christmas that brings out the DIY side of me. In fact, Christmas has had this affect on me since I was a young child when I would be allowed to decorate our family home with my crafts. I would gather pine cones and berries from the woods by our house, spraying them silver and gold before stringing them from ribbons twisted with fresh foliage. Here I am in full swing on set of the video! We filmed this advent calendar DIY towards the end of the summer in a super cool London studio. My aim was to create a DIY that would be fun to do one weekend with all the family: this one is great to get the kids involved. The best part? It will still look stylish! It’s also a fun way to use up extra decorations, or even create a tree-like decoration in a small apartment where a tree might not be possible.
Here’s the four steps to a #MakeYouSmileStyle Christmas advent calendar:
1. Wrap individual mini-advent treats in a variety of wrapping paper and ribbon, or place sweets into little paper bags and tie in place with fine wrapping ribbon.
2. Personalise to your tastes, for example use wooden scrabble tiles, ribbon, buttons or beads all available from craft suppliers.
3. Hang from a coatrack, or attach pegs to a wall using non-marking stickers – Command 3M are great for this.
4. Intersperse with Christmas decorations for a fabulous festive feature to last all of December.

I am afraid it is brown kraft paper bags with printed numbers for me this year. Somehow it looks quite cool and kids only care about what is inside anyway:) Oh well.
