As part of moving to New York City last year I had to quickly get used to streamlining my home life. My husband and I downsized from a two-bed, two-bath apartment with four closets, to a one-bed, one-bath apartment with one closet! That closet sits along one side of our open plan kitchen, living and dining area at the front of the apartment in our Brownstone property. This one space houses all the clothes, coats, shoes, belts, watches, accessories – you name it – for both of us, so it’s safe to say it’s been a squeeze! So, when Formica got in touch asking to partner with us to makeover our closet with their Formica Laminate product, we were thrilled! As well as adding new lighting, new sliding doors, additional shelving and drawer space, we also covered the built in with a beautiful Calcutta Marble and Salvage Planked Elm Formica Laminate finish. I chose these two finishes to bring visual and textural contrast to the space: I love the the smooth, cool marble is juxtaposed alongside the rich and textured planked elm. Check out the whole renovation in this fun video over on She Knows. Let me know which design elements you love from our new closet!

Ahh that video is adorable! What an upgrade. I wasn’t familiar with Formica Laminate before, but it’s awesome that it looks great and also adds that durability. Seems like a great product and the closet looks fantastic. I only have one closet in my apartment too so I feel your pain 🙂
@Jackie – Thank you so much! It really has elevated my closet in both style and practicality, I love it!
Amazing transformation!!
@Harriet – Thanks!

@Jules – Isn’t it?! Obsessed!
Great! So who did the covering with formica? How much does it cost? What trades person do I need to make this happen.?
Thanks.
@Paula – Thank you! I used a carpenter to install the Formica laminate. Not sure if you are based in the NYC area but they are called: https://www.yelp.com/biz/jcc-inc-new-york. Price varies on size of space but they will be able to quote for you. Hope that helps!
Love the result! Good job! Thought the same, kinda small closet.
@Grace – Right?! Haha! Thanks for the kind words.
Great transformation! It’s amazing how marble pattern adds style and elegance to any space, even the closet!
And a bit off topic – watched your video, love your haircut, I’ll show it to my husband 🙂

Great makeover. What make/model are the closet doors?
@Dana – I had them custom made to look like barn doors by an independent maker!
