Kirsten from Simply Grove and I have been reading one another’s blogs for at least six years or so now, so it’s a great thrill to be featuring a sneak peek inside her first book, Simply Styling. Kirsten loves to help people style their homes and show them how to create a space that tells a story. In the book she shares with the reader her valuable tips and tricks to going beyond the ‘one showroom’ look for a home. By the end of the book you really get a feel for how meaningful and beautiful it is when spaces are decorated with items the owner had found on their travels or had passed down through their family over the years. I’ve always found Kirsten’s blog to be a great source of mid-century and Scandinavian inspired design ideas, and her book is the perfect continuation of that theme. What i love about the book is how Kirsten breaks everything down for each room in the house. She takes the reader through her top advice for entryways, shelves, mantels, dressers, sofas, and those pesky little empty nooks you don’t know what to do with! The result is feeling like you can solve those nagging decor dilemmas! From statement-making design details, such as mirrors and vases, through to to quiet displays with things you already own, there’s stacks of inspiration inside the pages of Simply Styling that show you don’t have to shell out stacks of cash to style a room.
My favorite chapter in the book is the ‘Kitchen’ section because I’m always on the look out for clever tips and tricks to add soul and personality to kitchens. After all, they can so often be kinda lifeless and sterile, right?! Kirsten walks through a variety of stylish, warm and welcoming kitchens that detail open shelving full of personal items which tell the owner’s story, along with different lighting options (ranging from soft and atmospheric to bright task lights) that help to create a space that the owner and their guests always want to linger in.
