SchlageOver that last few months I have been redecorating my guest bedroom at beach house in partnership my friends from Schlage as they offer custom door hardware and invited me to try it out. With the Schlage Custom™ Collection you are now able to choose from over 70 items made with premium designs that uniquely complement any décor, from the front door to the closet. With so many combinations of finishes and shapes it’s easy to find a style that works for any space you have in mind. OK, let’s dive in and take a tour of the guest bedroom.

This bedroom is quite small and as the beach house is a Cape Cod style it means the upstairs spaces have a sloping dormer roof. I love that it makes the room feel cozy but on the flip side it can also make the space feel small. Decorating with eaves or sloping ceilings can be tricky, so I decided to add color just to one wall in order to prevent the room from feeling too small. I was really happy with the paint color (Hostaleaf from Behr) — the green is rich and warm but not too dark or too blue.SchlageTo maximize space, I decided to have a headboard attached to the wall. I found this buttery leather headboard online and shipped it from Scandinavia (it was my one splurge for the space!). It feels as nice as it looks and I think it’s going to age beautifully. The other plus was it meant I could push the bed right up against the wall to utilize the space at the foot of the bed.

The pair of nightstands are from Ikea and I love their simple leather pulls which tie back to the headboard nicely. These nightstands felt right for the space because the pale wood keeps the space feeling light and fresh, especially as they contrast with the dark accent wall behind them.SchlageAnother way I modernized the room was by replacing the existing door hardware with new designs from Schlage. Replacing door hardware is surprisingly easy and can make such a positive difference to a space. I choose the clean lined Custom Broadway lever with Century Trim in a matte black finish. Black hardware against a clean white door gives a clean, crisp and modern look – love! I have to say that I truly love the hardware. The handles have a pleasing weight to them and the finish is impeccable and very tactile.SchlageThe floors and windows treatments I kept the same as the rest of the house for consistency. On top of the white European oak floors I laid a textured grey and black rug to bring warmth and softness underfoot. I went with a dark texture so that the eye had grounding on the floor beneath the lighter bedding and textiles that I used to dress the bed.SchlageI had originally considered using a white and green bedding set for the room, but in the end, I decided to go with a soft gray linen bedding. With the strong green accent wall behind with the tan leather headboard, I wanted to avoid adding another bold color so that there wouldn’t be any tension in the room. The greys compliment the green walls to create a subtle and calming vibe in the room.SchlageWhat do you think of the scheme? Have you decorated with green in your home?
