The zest for painterly fabrics and home goods has been gradually gaining steam over the past few seasons and so I wanted to explore the look to see how it could be interpreted for different schemes and tastes. I’ve called the two looks Romantic Touch and Modern Graphic. The former is a traditional (and more widely exercised) use of the painterly effect, with soft brush strokes, delicate colours and feminine florals often at the helm of the designs. The second look, Modern Graphic, is a more contemporary take on the look which sees stronger lines and strokes used across a palette of vibrant neon and acid-like hues. As for Mr. Bazaar’s favourite, well I’m going to opt for Modern Graphic because the broken brush stroke chevron fabric is a stylish take on a tried and tested pattern and the brush stroke pillow has already been ordered for my office! Which take on this trend do you like best, friends?

mmm so delicious, I love them both!!
I cannot get enough of that stunning loveseat!
Never seen fabric like the painted chevron before… it’s very striking and different.
Hi Will, I am loving the first picture, with the painting and that little sofa thing – gorgeous:)) But then I could also love the table runner quite a lot, again you make it difficult to choose. Have a great day,

I prefer it mixed. 🙂 but both are great! My favourite the striped pillow.
I’m a romantic all the way I’m afraid. Love the sofa but I’d ask for the colour tones to be more muted

Anything by Bluebellgray, please.
@Leslie-Anne – I know, right! Fi is so talented.
I do love this trend, and the romantic touch version is by far my favorite.
depending on the application and the room itself I guess … I love that sofa and I think the romanic node works very well in that vignette, while the bold contemporary strokes are just dynamite on those slim high back chairs.
tough call!! I want them all!
Oohh fab!
I can get the painterly effect all I want as my husband is a contemporary artist! I’ve been stealing paintings from his studio lately to go up in our newly renovated rooms!!! You can see his work here if you want http://www.james-paterson.com
