While it’s still hotter than hot here in New York City, August sees the start of pre-fall fashion and home collections appearing in-stores and online. No matter how many years I’ve known this to be the case, I so often end up caught short when the weather finally does turn chiller in the Autumn. So, this year I have made a concerted effort to prep my wardrobe for autumnal layering ahead of time so that I’m ready to hit the streets in style! In today’s Bright.Style post, I’m sharing two outfits that show how you can add a punch of bold color to your early autumn looks. Click through after the jump to check them both looks in full!
The first outfit I styled in collaboration with Jaeger is centered around a mustard ribbed sweater. This hero piece was the ideal item to build out a color block outfit that works perfectly as a transitional look from day to night.I tempered the strength of the mustard with a classic navy mac and a pair of washed selvedge slim jeans. The rich yellow of the sweater pairs well with the chic navy of the mac, which serves as a frame to the sweater and creates the striking block of color in the look.Simple white shoes give an effortless feel to the outfit and stop there being any visual distraction from the sweater, which is the hero piece of the outfit. I like to cuff the sleeves of the sweater and coat to give a relaxed feel – it also helps to enhance the layered look of the outfit.The intense, autumnal color at the heart of the outfit, coupled with the light layers (a simple white tee and classic mac) make this look ideal for those fall days when the cool temps suddenly catch you by surprise and you need an extra layer to keep out the seasonal chill.My second look puts my favourite color family – blue, naturally – front and center. I decided to layer navy, on sky blue, on navy to create an outfit that feels comfortable and light; sophisticated, not summary.I built the look out from this awesome herringbone tee – check out that pattern in the shot above. I love just the detail of this piece; the pattern helps to elevate the tee into something far more special than a standard color block tee shirt. It’s this striking herringbone pattern that makes it possible for the tee to carry the overall look and mood of the outfit.The doubled faced knitted blazer is a subtle yet sophisticated addition that lends an effortlessly stylish and timeless feel. Not to mention the merino wool that seriously ups the comfort factor! I love how it seamlessly styles alongside the denim, too. I know I’m going to be throwing this one over colorful tees all season long. Don’t you just love it when you find a new wardrobe staple?!How do you like to introduce color into your outfits as you transition into a new season? Which Jaeger pieces do you like best from these two looks? Here’s to a kicking into the weekend in style, folks! // Art direction and styling by Will Taylor | Photography by Jean-Laurent Gaudy | Posted in collaboration with Jaeger; all views my own. Your post just made me so excited for fall. I feel like a total black sheep because I don’t love the heat, and fall/winter are my real favorites. We’ve been melting away here in Boston and seeing your fab layering has got me super ready for chillier days. Love the colors!
@Gabriella – Thank you! I love the summer sunshine but the heat can be oppressive. I’m sure by the end of August I’ll be willing on fall as well – for the cooler days and the gorgeous autumnal colors!
You are adorable. No really! xo
@Bea – Makin’ me blush over here! 😉
Good job Will. Is the Mac thick or thin? I like the look of it but don’t want somwthibg that is too bulky.
@Jack – Cheers! It’s lightweight for sure – the perfect layering piece for autumn. I think it’s my favorite piece from the whole pre-call collection. Well, that or the cardigan, it’s a touch call! Haha.
I love how you find places that match your outfits! 🙂
@Artem – Thanks so much! I spent three hours trying to find this yellow wall when planning this shoot, it was worth it, though!
Great post, love the navy/mustard combo for fall!
@Leanne – Thanks so much! 🙂
Fabulous! The outfit and the shooting place.
@Grace – Great choice!
@Grace – Kind of you to say, thanks! 🙂
Hey Will love your photographs! What filters do you use for tour instagram pictures?
@Kyle – Thanks so much! I use a variety of filters depending on light/colors in the photo etc. Check out VsCo app for great options!
How do you cuff your jeans? Mine always look horrible and Capri-ish! 🙂 Thank you!
@Ethn – Hey! I found this article on GQ useful for your question: http://www.gq.com/story/how-to-roll-your-pants-gq-guide Hope that helps! 🙂
Hey Will –
I discovered your blog from going through GQ this month. Love all of the articles and insights you have with design and fashion. Hoping you could share where you got the khaki hooded parka in the fall gq article.
Cheers
Tony
