It wouldn’t be anything new for me to write: I love color. After all, I’ve been waxing lyrical about my love for hue across my home, my wardrobe and my travels since 2009! What is new, however, are millions of Diet Coke bottles all over the country that each have a completely unique – and colorful! – design. That’s right, every single one of the millions of Diet Coke IT’S MINE bottles looks unique. So awesome! My mum and I have always been big Diet Coke fans. When I was a kid she would take me to weekly swimming lessons and we’d have this ritual where we’d meet in the café afterwards, and each have a Diet Coke while we chatted together. It was pure mum and I time, and I loved it. So when Diet Coke invited me to style up a unique and quintessentially bright #MakeYouSmileStyle outfit using the It’s Mine bottles as the finishing touch, I jumped at the chance. Quite literally, as you’ll see after the, well, jump!
I grounded my outfit around the palette of a traditional Diet Coke bottle: silver and red. Slim cut linen pants gave the overall look a sharp and tailored feel. I opted for casual white shoes to keep the outfit feeling light, energetic and youthful. An actual squeal of delight came out of my mouth when I found this vibrant orange wall in Brooklyn. Amongst the monochrome palette of New York City it’s always a joy to find splashes of #MakeYouSmileStyle color! The winter here on the East Coast has been surprisingly mild this year, so my wardrobe options and outfits have been feeling very spring-like. A staple navy jacket is one of my go-to pieces as I can use it to layer over brighter block color elements of an outfit, from a shirt or sweater.Whether I’m styling a design scheme for a home or an outfit to wear, I like to work in a statement piece; something that brings a unique je ne sais quoi to the ensemble. In this case it was this divine lightweight cashmere sweater. I also love how the unique color and pattern of the Diet Coke IT’S MINE bottle pops against the streamlined look of the outfit. It helps create that perfect balance between style and whimsy that always makes me smile! The zing of red just makes the outfit pop – I love the energy of the look! Pairing the red sweater with a classic round neck white shirt is a nod to my love of classic pieces that have timeless appeal. The key to making a color block outfit a success is simplicity. You don’t want to distract from the statement look brought about by that surprise hit of hue.Much like the red of the Diet Coke logo on the IT’S MINE bottle references the red of my cashmere sweater, the same principle would be true if you were choosing a bag, watch or scarf to complete an outfit. Having a subtle red thread that runs through the whole look creates a cool, effortless look! That moment when you realize it’s Friday and almost the weekend. Yep, you know it!Do you wear block colors? Fabulous post Will and campaign for diet coke! Congrats!! Love those pants and of course that pop of red. Every time I see you in Brooklyn now I think of my son who lives there. ♡
@Deborah – Thank you so much! I hope your son is enjoying Brooklyn!
Great outfit! I especially love that cashmere sweater. Also, can I ask how do you manage to keep the sneakers so white? I have many white ones, but they always get that slight worn look, no matter how often I clean them (and I mostly just wear them to the office and in good weather).
@Andreas – Thank you so much! These ones are wipeable so they are quite easy to keep keep clean looking! My canvas ones? Not so much… 😉
