I can’t imagine working outside during the dog days of Summer — the humidity is just too much! Finally, though the humidity is dropping and it’s the perfect time of year to head outside to work, and not to mention enjoy a change of scenery too, right?! So when Amazon Home challenged me to create an outdoor office space I jumped straight in. Ok, so working outside sounds great until you have to worry about the sun, bugs, power, and setup – don’t worry I have your back! I created an outdoor space that takes care of all of these problems. Plus, it’s perfect whether you have a huge yard or just a small balcony. Everything looks stylish and it’s all from Amazon Home so it’s great value.

  1. Fun and Functional

Outdoor spaces can often become cold and hard due to their durable materials but you can make it a fun and functional space with a few simple touches. In my outdoor office I went with a blue and natural theme to reflect the coastal locale. The blue parasol with fringe not only gives me shade to work under but also lends the space a stylish retro vibe — it’s so much more fun than standard white parasols! The outdoor rug brings texture while the throw cushions immediately make the space feel more inviting and comfortable. Just because it’s outdoor doesn’t mean you can’t use soft furnishings — Amazon Home has plenty of weather-resistant options to add cheer and comfort without any of the worries they’ll get ruined outside.

2. Make it easy

I loved the idea of having an outside office but honestly, I put it off for months because I knew that if it was complicated and time-consuming to continually set up and break down at the start and end of the workday, I just wouldn’t use it. That’s why I love the AmazonBasics utility cart: I store everything I need it and can easily wheel it outside when I want to work in the backyard. Then, when I’m ready to move inside, it’s easy to transport everything back. It stores everything from the stationery to all my cables and electronics. Having everything on-hand in one utility cart makes it easy to convert my outdoor bistro set into a functional home office set up. Then, when I’m done and want to use the space for relaxing or dining, the cart (and all the reminders of work) are wheeled away! Plus the erro mesh wifi system is easy to install and extends WiFi coverage seamlessly, ensuring even the garden gets wifi, as I put one of the satellites by my back door.

3. Make it comfortable

Working outside seems like a great idea until the bugs are biting you, or the sun is shining on your screen, right?! Thankfully, these things don’t have to stop you from having a stylish and practical outdoor office. Amazon Home has everything from beautiful throw cushions from Rivet through to bug deterrents and cute parasols that will keep the sun off your screen. Being able to find everything you need from one place makes it seamless and quick to set up a work spot outside.
